Animation, DesignWe teamed up with Mother Design in the middle of their massive brand launch for Marriott Bonvoy. After merging with Starwood Hotels to become the world’s largest hotel portfolio, Marriott International engaged Mother Design to create a new global loyalty brand with a substantial challenge: combine Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest, and Ritz Carlton Rewards under a new name and identity, and connect 100 million members, 30 brands, and 6500 properties worldwide. From this, Marriott Bonvoy was born.
We brought the logo and identity system to life through motion. Embedded in the wordmark is a “cursor”. This cursor is used throughout the identity to represent what’s next, discovery, connection, and possibility. We explored several cursor animation behaviors, how it could animate into the wordmark, and how it can interact with language, photos, and illustrations.
Ultimately, the client went in another direction with the logo and the team had to pivot in a new direction. This was still a blast to work on, and some elements from our collaboration made it into the final rebrand.
